Open vented cylinders
Open vented hot water cylinders are becoming less and less common. Many have been removed over the past two decades as people upgraded to combi boilers or to unvented cylinders.

Unvented cylinders
Unvented hot water cylinders are now the most common cylinders installed in domestic and commercial properties. This is largely due to the high efficiency of the cylinder itself along with the high volume of water they have the capacity to hold, due to being mains feed.
These cylinders can have multiple fuel sources .i.e. Gas boiler, solar thermal, oil boilers. Combinations such as oil boiler and solar thermal, gas boiler and solar thermal, and even PV solar work well.
With many safety featured supplied with the cylinders, they are ideal for modern houses.
Thermal Store
If you have a large property with multiple fuel sources such as oil, gas, back boiler, PV solar, wood pellet boilers and solar thermal. Then this is the hot water cylinder for you.
Unlike conventional unvented and open vented cylinders, thermal store cylinders are a store of central heating water that is heated by multiple fuel sources. Making use of the cheapest fuel source- saving money for you and your family.
The combination of fuel sources whether they are renewables such as air or ground source heat pumps, PV solar and Solar thermal. Or Common fuel sources such as oil, natural gas, LPG, back boilers or wood burning stoves. The combination is endless.
